I finally make further investigations on my chronic low grade tooth abscess. I've been to the Dental Institute a few times. It is so different from the rest of the hospital. It is always quiet, clean and uncluttered. I go to the restorative dept. An electronic notice board clearly tells me how many people are being seen in the clinic, percentage seen within 5 minutes of appointment time, average waiting time and importantly the number of patients who are late or don't even turn up. Zero for both. The massive partitioned clinic seems empty.
A quick history and examination before a visit to x-ray. Dentist seems perplexed about source of infection as no filling in that tooth.X-ray just as efficient, but slightly noisier.
So I've got bone loss between the roots and to the back of it.
Options: remove tooth and attach crown via neighbouring tooth, cut open gum and give it a good clean out then pray or remove back root of tooth including denervation and pray lots.
Next steps are seeing the super toothfairy to improve my teepee technique plus possible antibiotic gel, then a specialist to have a good root about! Fun, fun, fun!
Kids - clean your teeth properly, see the dentist regularly and avoid sugary acidic drinks (cider > lager > pop > beer > wine > spirits! ). aperture

A trip to the dental hospital

You fat b*st*rd!
The official New Year's Day weigh in was a shock! 18st 12lb (256 pounds or 119kg). Diastolic blood pressure higher than Mrs H's systolic. Time for (another) change or a stroke. A small wager with my sister, partner, eldest daughter and father of £10 each on who will lose the greatest proportion of body weight in January. Better do my upmost to win this for health's sake!
So this year's recipe: back on the bike, follow the rules of my Church of Scotland forefathers: abstinence; use that Edge gym membership I pay for each month and follow the dining rules of www.pritikin.com Result £50 richer by the end of the month!
Start of day 2. Despite having my gym bag packed and alarm set, the 4.20am alarm call didn't help. Messed up the snooze function on new phone and lo and behold it was 7.45! Now going after work instead. A healthy small portioned day so feeling empty so looking thinner!

So the Mayans said it would roll over, didn't they?
So who to blame? The fox that stole 5 pairs of footwear including my trail shoes? Luca the Weimaraner for getting too old to run? Or just me? The latter wins.
Bought replacement trail shoes yesterday. Trying Karrimor at £34 to save some money. My bike is at work waiting to be ridden home for the last 4 weeks. Considering I'm going on the train since we became a single car family, it takes less time to cycle. Banish those negative thoughts!
Today Abby (daughter 2) goes back to Falmouth on the train. Sophie didn't even make it back for Xmas as we went away to Uncle Paul's. Only Dominic at home, and he's rarely in, so the house is quiet. Corrinne still unemployed and regretting resigning because of moral fortitude!
Keep visiting the www.pritikin.com website and deciding when to start. A small Pritikin logo tattooed on the inside of my wrist might help if i can remember to touch before gorging on those "good but bad" foods.
2nd on-call for New Year's Eve, so a good way to start the next year. At least I'll have a clear head!
Resolutions for 2013
1. Get fit again - the weight will drop off! Bike to work and use the gym membership I pay for.
2. Do more with Mrs H (better work life balance)
3. Become more minimalist (a challenge for a hoarder)
4. Pritikin-esque
5. Less alcohol
6. Keep on enjoying life
