David Attenborough's Horizon documentary was a staggering watch. Based on the current developed world's space requirements per head of population for food production, the earth is already full! UK ~5Ha/person, but USA ~9!
The key to population control appears to be education of females. In parts of India, where all girls are educated, they marry at 28 years and have only 1.5 children! Water will be the key issue. Again, though not discussed, the choice of diet will have a big affect on space. Watch it!
