Went to Nice on the Cote D'Azur in France for the annual European Association of Hospital Pharmacy meeting. Despite having been to the South of France for 7 years on holiday, we never made it to Cote D'Azur. Nice itself was a pleasant town of faded glory. Thankfully, the city had kept it old's buildings.
On my arrival I went for a run along the seafront. My hotel Radison Blu Nice was two miles from the centre. They have a strange etiquette of not acknowledging anyone as you run past them. Quite odd, but then you would be like a nodding dog as their were dozens of runners. Hotel was good and modern, but too far out from the city centre ~3miles.
One day I went up to onto the hill on the seafront. Superb panoramic views, then a wander round the Jewish cemetry. Walked through the old town, which was reminiscent of Agde. Narrow streets and plenty of street markets. It is amazing that a salt and pepper shop can actually thrive! Went to some excellent restaurants (details later). Presented a lecture on early discharge, and used audience voting technology. Great to get live feedback.
Met some interesting people. A man my size who'd actually done an Ironman. Impressive!
The flight back was a hassle as we were delayed 4 hours because of fog. Not pleasant in a small airport, but managed to chat to an English lady from Oman for hours. Arrived home at midnight - a 12 hour journey home. You can only fly from Nice to Leeds from April.
I would definitely go again for a long weekend.
